Anthroponyms
He was the eldest although illegitimate son of Friar Paio Correia, bailiff of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. He was a knight of this Order from 1503 onwards. In 1505, he sett off to India for the first time, as captain of Dom Francisco de Almeidas fleet, having returned, in 1508, in Jorge de Aguiars one, in the exact same post. This captain of the Carreira da India was probably a nobleman, possibly a fidalgo. However, no reference was found neither of his rank nor of that of his brother, Pêro Correia, who was also captain of a ship of the 1508 fleet. Diogo Correia was the donatory captain of Cananor between the years of 1510 and 1513. |
