Anthroponyms seta ALCOFORADO, Manuel de Castro

A nobleman of the Royal House, he was the eldest son of Gonçalo Vaz Alcoforado and Dona Ana de Castro, daughter of Fernão de Castro, chief Alcaide of Melgaço. In 1511, he departed for the Orient as captain of a ship in Dom Garcia de Noronha´s armada, having returned to the kingdom the following year. In 1515 he received the habit of the Order of Christ. On an unknown date, he inherited his father´s house and half of the Mourisca de Agueira. He married Dona Beatriz Pinheiro, illegitimate daughter of Dom Diogo Pinheiro, the bishop of Funchal. As of 1528, it is known that he received an annual pension (tença) of twenty thousand reis.
