Anthroponyms seta ANDRÉ de Amakusa (1563-1626)

Clergy of the Society of Jesus who worked mostly in Japan. He was born in Japan around 1563 and died in Macau on 21st December, 1626. Also known as André Matsuoka, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1582. In 1603 he worked at the Bungo residence, where he was the companion of father Pedro Paulo Navarro and a preacher. Between 1606 and 1607 he was at the residence in Katsusa and in February 1613 was in Isahaya. In November 1614 he left for Manila and returned to Japan in 1616, but 1618 found him in Macau, so he must have left Japan in 1617, heading for Cochinchina (nowadays a region in southern Vietnam).
