Anthroponyms seta COSTA, Afonso Lopes da

He was a nobleman of the Royal House, son of Pêro da Costa de Tomar and brother of Garcia e Gaspar da Costa and of António Lopes, a captain of the fleet which conquered Goa. In 1498, he was a frontier in the garrison of Arzila. For three times, in 1504, 1506 and 1516, he was the captain of the fleet which left from Lisbon to India. In 1506, he took part in the fleet of Afonso de Albuquerque, headed for the Arabian Sea and he belonged to the group of men who deserted the company of the future governor. His brother Garcia da Costa was captain of the 1516 fleet. In 1518, he was the donatory captain of Malaca, where he passed away.
