According to João de Barros, he was a knight of the Royal House. In 1514 in the company of Pedro Eanes, French, he sailed to the Indian Ocean as captain of a fleet, which had the mission of discovering Saint Lawrence Island (Madagascar), where a trading post was to be built for ginger commerce. The project failed due to opposition from the local population.
