Anthroponyms seta FERNANDES, Francisco (1551-1628)

Clergy of the Society of Jesus who worked mostly in Japan. Born around 1551 either in Santa Marinha (Diocese of Braga) or Montemor-o-Novo, he died in Macao on 8 August, 1628. He was admitted into the Society in 1575 and arrived in Japan in 1581. On 7 February, 1593, in Shiki, his training completed, he professed the vows of Temporal Coadjutor. In 1603 and 1606, he was at the Omura residence and, beginning in 1607, was placed at Santiago Hospital in Nagasaki. He was exiled, departing for Macao November 1614.
