Anthroponyms seta MENDONÇA, Pêro de

This nobleman of the royal house was the son of João de Brito and Dona Maria Mendonça. He was the half-brother of Cristovão de Brito, captain of the 1511 India Fleet and admiral of the 1514 one, of Lopo Brito, Captain of Ceylon (1519-1522); of Antonio de Brito, Captain of the Molucca Islands (1522), and of Jorge de Brito, captain of the 1511 India Fleet and admiral in 1520. In 1504 he left for the Orient as captain of the fleet. By order of admiral Lopo Soares de Albergaria, he went to Kollam to load spices, along with captains Lopo de Abreu, António de Saldanha, Rui Lourenço, and Filipe de Castro. He was lost in the return trip to Portugal. For the purpose of searching for him and for Francisco de Albuquerque, who had also disappeared, a special fleet was organized in 1505, in which Cid Barbudo and Pero Quaresma were participants.
