Resident merchant in Macao in the first half of the 17th century, he was Clerk of Santa Casa da Misericórdia of this city in 1611 and 1615.

In 1622 he was a supporter of the Society of Jesus in the election of D. Diogo Valente, Bishop of Japan, for Governor of the Bishopric of China. In the "Lista De La gente Efetiua que Ay Em esta Ciudade Assy, Visinos Como Estrauagantes forasteros e gente De lla tierra" of 1625, we found two namesakes, both belonging to the parish of Sé, one of them from "man of the land." If he is Francisco Araújo de Barros, he was a member of the Leal Senado [Loyal Senate] in 1637 and held the position of Procurator. He participated in the debate that occurred between 1631 and 1637 on the new type of election for travel administrator of Japan, which was imposed by the Viceroy Conde de Linhares upon the suggestion of Chief Judge Sebastião Soares Pais.

In 1641 he was among the twenty oldest and most prominent citizens in Macao. Having signed the Term of May 31, 1642 at the time of the acclamation of D. João IV in Macao, he acted in accordance with Governor General D. Sebastião Lobo da Silveira in the contradiction in which the Governor of the Bishopric, Friar Bento de Cristo, opposed the Commissaries of the Holy Office, Father Gaspar Luís and Father Gaspar do Amaral.

He participated in the debate of 1645-46 on sending an embassy to Japan.
