Japanese locality on the western coast of the Kyushu Island. In 1580 Omura Sumitada donated it to the Society of Jesus. At the time it was nothing more than a small territory, not very far from Nagasaki and in front of the Shimabara peninsula, which proved to be quite advantageous for it allowed a maritime liaison with Arima and the Christian communities of Amasuka and Shiki without having to cross enemy territories controlled by Isahaya. It was, together with Nagasaki, seized by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1587.
