He was a Portuguese navigator from the 15th century, who departed to the Coast of Arguin with Lançarote de Lagos. Lançarote ordered him, along with Gil Vasques, to go to Nar Island with a few small boats and men to capture a native in order to assess the feasibility of landing there. When they arrived on the island, they found a large number of natives, who were totally unprepared. Martim Vicente suggested they initiate the attack themselves, rather than waiting for the fleet, which they did, taking 225 captive. He departed again in 1445 as a pilot in the armada commanded by Lançarote de Lagos.
