Clergy of the Society of Jesus who worked mainly in Japan. He was born in Goa, in 1528, where he died, on 3 July 1597.
He arrived in Japan in 1564, and remained there until 1586. He worked with the community of Christians that followed the trade carrack ship from the destruction of Yokoseura until the foundation of Nagasaki, and joined the expeditions that led to the choice of this place as the destination site for the trade carrack ship. In 1579 he was in Funai (Ôita), and was the rector of the college in 1581. He professed three vows, in Usuki, on 18 October 1581. Old age and the gout, a medical condition that affected him, combined to make him leave Japan. He was in Goa by the end of October 1593, where he played a leading role in the opposition to the policy of Alexandre Valignano for the Japanese mission. In India, he trained the novices and was rector of the college of Goa.
