Clergy of the Society of Jesus who worked in Japan. He was born in Oporto around 1520 and died in Goa on 10th August, 1571. He was admitted to the Society in Coimbra in March 1543. He left for India in 1551 and was appointed rector of the Bassein* College by Francisco Xavier. In 1553, with the deaths of Xavier in 1552 and of Gaspar Barzeo in October 1553, he became the provincial of India and on that quality he left for Japan in 1554, where he remained for 3 months during 1556. He lived in Kochi for 10 years (1557-1567) and passed away in Goa.
