Clergy of the Society of Jesus who worked mainly in Japan. Born in Lisbon, he died in the region of Shimabara, in the beginning of 1620. He joined the Society in the spring of 1588. In 1603 he studied Theology at the Madre de Deus college, in Macau. He arrived in Japan in 1604, and was probably ordained priest that year, in Nagasaki. It is probable that he always worked in the Arie region and remained there clandestinely during the 1612 persecutions. He was in Japan, in November 1614; in 1617, though still a member of the Arie community, he went to Nagasaki to prepare for his religious profession. After a period of seclusion which he devoted to his spiritual exercises, he professed the 4 vows on 5 August, at Francisco Martins's house. He lived at the time with Mateus de Couros.
