This gentleman of the Royal House was the son of Aires Barreto. In 1508 he left for India for the first time as captain of the fleet of Jorge de Aguiar, having returned to the Realm as captain of the return voyage the following year. In 1515 he sailed to the East again, as captain of the fleet of Lopo Soares de Albergaria and, in 1518, it is possible to find him amongst the captains who returned with the spice ships.
