Archbishop of Bahia, provisional governor.

The Count of Lavradio, Dom António de Almeida Sousa Portugal, took office as governor of Brazil on 9 January, 1760. Six months later, on 4 July, he died. He was replaced by the Chancellor Tomás Rubi dos Santos Barreto until 1761, when a provisional government made up of the new Chancellor, José Gonçalo de Andrade, and Colonel Gonçalo Xavier de Barros e Alvim, was formed. Some time later, the recently appointed Archbishop Dom Friar Manuel de Santa Inês joined this provisional government.
