Provisional governor of Brazil.

Caetano de Brito Figueiredo was a criminal judge when he was asked to rule Brazil after the death of Governor-General Dom Sancho de Faro e Sousa, on October 13, 1719. He was the head of a Provisional Board which was immediately formed upon the Governor-General's death and remained in this capacity until 23 November, 1720. Among the members of this Board were the senior field marshal João de Araújo e Azevedo, and the archbishop Dom Sebastião Monteiro de Vide. As the High Court Chancellor, Luís de Melo da Silva, was abroad, the criminal judge Caetano de Brito Figueiredo was called to replace him.
