This gentleman of the Royal Household started his eastern career as part of the government of Viceroy Francisco de Almeida. He participated in the army which attacked Dabul and, in 1509, he also took part in the attack to Diu. In 1512, now under the command of Governor Afonso de Albuquerque, he played a part in the attack to the fort of Benasterim. Joao de Barros inaccurately places him amongst the captains who went with Lopo Soares de Albergaria in the expedition to the Red Sea, as in 1518 he was in Lisbon, ready for a new journey to the Orient, with the mission of building a fortress in the Maldives, where he later died at the hands of Muslims.
