Merchant living in Macao, he was born in Lamego and married in Macao with Maria Pires, who had Portuguese-Chinese origins. He created kinship ties with Lopo Sarmento de Carvalho and António Fialho Ferreira, who settled in the same city and married his daughters. António Fialho Ferreira married his daughter Catarina Cerqueira and had several sons, among them Constantino Fialho.

He was Clerk in Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Macao in 1619.

In 1622, he supported the Society of Jesus in the election of the Governor of the Bishopric of China in opposition to the Dominican Friar António do Rosário.
